POLSC 382 - Modern Political Thought Credits: 4 A study of selected modern political theorists, such as Machiavelli, Hobbes, Locke, Montesquieu, Rousseau, Burke, Tocqueville and J. S. Mill. Themes treated include the creation of the modern state and the meaning of sovereignty, the development of individualism and liberalism, the relation of the individual and the community, and the meaning and dynamics of democracy.
Prerequisite: POLSC 140 or POLSC 285 is recommended.
