Texts are drawn from the works of theorists and commentators such as Winthrop, Paine, Hamilton, Madison, Jefferson, Lincoln, Tocqueville, Henry Adams, Chesterton and Lippmann, as well as from the work of literary figures such as Hawthorne, Melville, Twain and Faulkner.
