FRNCH 301 - French Society and Culture Credits: 4 A survey of key aspects of French society and culture. Topics relating to French institutions and cultural identity are analyzed and discussed, including political, economic, and educational institutions and values as well as media, the workplace, and family life. Emphasis will be placed on the complexity of the notion of culture and cross-cultural comparison. Course materials include anthropological, sociological and historical documents, literary texts, and films. Recommended for students planning to study abroad in France. One additional oral practice session per week and/or attendance at French Table may be required.
Prerequisite: FRNCH 225 or permission of the instructor.
