HIST 273 - Piracy in the Americas, 1500-1830 Credits: 4 A study of piracy in the Americas from 1500 to 1830 that traces the evolution of maritime piracy and examines the experience of both predators and prey. Discussion of pirate ethics, daily life, and criminal activity is followed by an assessment of piracy’s political and economic impact on Europe and its American colonies. Analysis of piracy in popular culture and imagination completes the semester.
