POLSC 325 - Rights in Comparative Perspective Credits: 4 A comparison of legal and political rights throughout the world. We focus on the differences between negative and positive rights, the role of the state in defining and guaranteeing rights, and the spread of “American-style” rights (e.g., rights demanded of the government via the courts that influence social policy) and law-focused social movements throughout the rest of the world. States to be considered include China, the European Union, Germany, India, Japan, Canada, and the United States.
