The Music Performance minor is a program in the Visual and Performing Arts Area of Study.
Music Performance Minor Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete a minor in Music Performance are expected to be able to:
- Understand tools and methods used in musical research and be able to analyze sources accurately and critically;
- Present their research in a clear and coherent manner both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrate a broad understanding of musical materials and styles both as categories of musical significance and with regard to specific works and composers.
- Demonstrate competence as a performer on the chosen instrument both in solo and ensemble repertoire.
The Music Performance Minor
The Music Performance minor consists of 24 credits. At graduation, Music Performance minors must have a GPA of at least 2.0 in the minor. The calculation is based on the grades of all courses presented for the minor. Only the most recent grade is considered for courses that have been repeated. No courses for the minor in Music Performance may be taken Credit/No Credit. Transfer Credit
Prerequisites are waived only for qualifying scores on diagnostic exams.
Placement into a Music Theory class (MUSIC 200 and MUSIC 201 ) will be determined by diagnostic exam. Students who place into MUSIC 201 may not apply MUSIC 200 toward the Music Performance Minor.
The completion of 24 semester hours of coursework is required for the Music Performance minor. Music Performance minors are required to have a GPA of at least 2.0 in courses required for a Music Performance minor at graduation. No courses for the minor in Music Performance may be taken Credit/No Credit. Prerequisites are waived only for qualifying scores on diagnostic exams.
Not all courses are offered each year, and the College reserves the right to cancel or reschedule courses for enrollment, staffing, or other reasons.
