MUSIC 226 - World Music and Culture Credits: 4 An exploration of music formed in global cultures. Students investigate diverse approaches to music-making by considering the intersection of current and traditional social practices, performance tools and techniques, and compositional approaches. Applying knowledge of influential music-makers and musical terms from a range of regions and traditions, students draw comparisons among diverse music styles. The course enhances student ability to conduct aural identification and analysis as a way to determine the similarities and distinguishing features of diverse music practices.
Prerequisite: MUSIC 123
