PSYCH 412 - Verbal Behavior Credits: 4 An analysis of the acquisition of language and communication from a behavioral learning perspective. We examine in detail how forms of verbal behavior, such as speaking, listening, writing, and thinking, originate and are modified through interactions with other members of the verbal community. Emphasis is placed on the function, rather than the form, of verbal behavior and communication. Specific topics include audience control over verbal behavior, the function of grammar and syntax in oral and written communication, thinking and other private forms of communication, and self-editing in thinking, writing, and speaking.
Prerequisite: PSYCH 152 Corequisite: PSYCH 416 .
