HIST 347 - Tax and Spend Credits: 4 An examination of debates over taxation, welfare, and government subsidies in the United States from the 1930s to the present. Our study takes a broad view of government support, including that provided to the general public, families, and businesses. Among the issues discussed are the rationale behind different forms of subsidies, shifts in political support, and changing attitudes toward taxation.
Prerequisite: One course in U.S. history.
