BLKST 257 - African-American History since 1865(also listed as HIST 257 ) Credits: 4 A survey of African-American history from the end of the Civil War to the present. Students explore topics such as Reconstruction, the rise and fall of Jim Crow, the Great Migration, the Harlem Renaissance, the Civil Rights Movement, Black Power, and Hip Hop. The lives of major figures in America’s racial history are also examined.
Distribution Requirements: HE, PD.
This course counts as Social Science for the purpose of satisfying the College distribution requirement for students who matriculated before Fall 2016.
