ENVSC 425 - Global Health Transitions Credits: 4 An exploration of the underlying causes and social connections of global health problems including: malnutrition, poor water quality, inadequate infrastructure, overpopulation, chronic diseases, and HIV/AIDS, as well as issues specific to women and children. Students investigate health disparities and their ramifications at the global scale and evaluate the efficacy of intervention strategies at the local, regional, and international levels. In particular, we explore how numerous developments (urbanization, industrialization, globalization, and demographic transition) affect health and healthcare delivery and are in turn affected by human health and natural resources.
Prerequisite: Junior or senior standing and permission of instructor.
Distribution Requirements: CL, IP.
This course counts as Social Science for the purpose of satisfying the College distribution requirement for students who matriculated before Fall 2016.
