ART 223 - Far Eastern Art Credits: 4 A survey of art and architecture in Asia, including Indochina, India, China, Korea, and Japan. Lectures and readings concern such topics as the influence of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam on Southeast Asian and Indian art and architecture; the significance of Confucianism and Taoism in Chinese painting; the concept of feng shui as a central precept of Chinese architecture; the impact of European colonialism on Chinese and Japanese culture; the relationship of Japanese and Korean art to Chinese models; and the evolution of Japanese samurai culture in the Momoyama and Edo periods.
