Purpose for Policy

The College is committed to efficient, cost effective use of all space on campus grounds; and is equally committed to equitable opportunity for all students living and learning on campus.

Summary of Policy

In an effort to maintain our commitment to equitable opportunity for all students of Allegheny College, we do not offer on-campus storage of student belongings anywhere on college-owned campus grounds including residence halls, administrative and/or academic areas.

The Procedure

1.0   LOCAL STORAGE OPTIONS FOR STUDENT BELONGINGS

There are multiple local storage facilities that offer secure storage. These options offer convenience for students and families who are arriving on campus at various dates and times over the summer and also for   early arrival students. PLEASE NOTE: Allegheny College does not endorse any particular local business. There are local facilities that may be able to offer short and long term storage.

TIP: Students can choose to store their items individually or as a group and will have the ability to access their items whenever they return to campus.

Information for current local storage options can be found on the Residence Life website under “on campus living” under storage.

2.0   PROTECTION OF STUDENT BELONGINGS

As the Housing Agreement states, the College does not assume any legal or financial obligations for any resident’s Personal Property that may be lost, stolen, or damaged in its buildings or on its grounds. Students should carry their own insurance protection against loss or damage to their personal property. Items left in college-owned residential buildings after a student moves out and/or the end of the occupancy period will be discarded and/or donated.

3.0   EQUAL OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS

The College must maintain a position of equal opportunity for all students, therefore any opportunity offered to one student must be offered to the entire student body.  The campus does not have enough storage available to offer this kind of opportunity to all students.  Therefore, the policy is to not offer any storage options for students on campus.  Due to the liability to the college, this policy will be strictly enforced.

4.0   STUDENT ORGANIZATION STORAGE

The College does offer storage units for the storage of Student Organization property.  These units are available through the Student Leadership and Involvement department and are only available for Student Organization Property.  No personal or student owned items are permitted.  This storage is only for club or organization owned property.
